First day as a volunteer!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of volunteering at Felbrigg Hall in the kitchen garden, and I have to say I am still recovering!
I was welcomed into the Wednesday volunteer circle, and shown what real autumnal gardening was all about. So yes I did get not only my wellingtons dirty but also my hands and knees. We all joined in mulching the new flowerbeds and then planting bulbs for the spring. Now I know this all sounds delightful, but I can tell you it was really hard work!
In our treasured tea and coffee breaks I got a chance to talk to a few of the volunteers about my project and have asked if they would be happy to share some of their experiences at Felbrigg to help me produce some work that encompassed their feelings about what they do in the gardens.
Within this post, I could carry on about the beautiful space and how the changing season inspired my visual work, however I am going to just take a moment, to reflect upon the sense of community and the welcome I was given by both the staff and the volunteers and how that should really be the basis of my project.
Don’t worry I will have my visual ramble in the next post, but for now I leave you with proof that I indeed did get my hands dirty!
